Editorial policy and how we rank
Lists on Nurseries Hub are ordered by Ofsted's findings and nothing else. No nursery or group can pay to appear, to move up or to have an outcome left out.
The five bands
Each nursery is put into one band from its latest inspection, whichever system it was graded under.
| Band | Who is in it |
|---|---|
| 1 | Top band (Outstanding, or a report card at Strong standard or better) |
| 2 | Second band (Good, or a report card at the expected standard) |
| 3 | Third band (Requires improvement, or a report card area that needs attention) |
| 4 | Lowest band (Inadequate, safeguarding not met, or an area needing urgent improvement) |
| 5 | Group not yet graded by Ofsted |
Inside a band, the most recent inspection comes first. A report card and an old one-word grade are never turned into each other: Ofsted says the two cannot be compared, so the band only groups them.
What we write
Every number on a page comes from a named source, linked on the page. Safeguarding that is not met, and any area needing urgent improvement, is shown as Ofsted recorded it, with the date and a link to the report, and without comment.
What we do not do
- We do not publish reviews, star ratings or comments.
- We do not invent fees: where a nursery's own price is not known we show the regional average and say so.
- We do not use photos of children.
Corrections
If Ofsted's data changes, the next update changes the page. If a nursery's details are wrong at Ofsted, the nursery can ask Ofsted to correct them.
